Ministry of the Sick

Parishioners who are ill or in the hospital are requested to either personally, or through other family members and friends, inform the Parish Office so that arrangements may be made to see that all enjoy the comfort of the Sacraments. Anyone knowing of a person who cannot get to Mass and would like to receive communion, are asked to call the Parish Office for visitation schedule.

We have many Eucharistic Ministers who visit our sick and shut-in parishioners on a regular basis, whether they are in their own homes, nursing homes, retirement homes, assisted living facilities, etc.  Many are visited on Friday mornings after 8:00 Mass, or Sunday morning after 8:00 Mass.  Each parishioner is given a large print Prayer Book which was prepared to help them turn their thoughts to God and to let them know that they are in the thoughts and prayers of many.

Qualities of a Minister to the Sick

Ministry to the Sick and Shut-In is a service offered to people at vulnerable and painful times in their lives. The person who serves the sick and shut-in needs to have specific qualities and gifts:

  • Reverence for the Eucharistic
  • Compassion for those in need
  • A listening presence
  • Empathy
  • A non-judgmental attitude
  • Confidentiality
  • Commitment and follow-through
  • Prayerfulness
  • Gentleness of manner
  • Commitment to continuous training and spiritual development

If you feel you are called to this ministry or if you know somebody that is homebound and wants to receive Holy Communion , please call Carol and Bob Ushka at (863) 385-8301 or the office at (863) 385-0049.
