Mission StatementTo live the Gospel message of Christ, the St. Catherine Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) exists to serve the needy in Highlands County according to the resources available and policies established by the United States Manual of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Spiritual FoundationMembers must strive to deepen their love of God and to see Christ in those they serve and each other, and to offer Christ their efforts for His greater glory. The biggest asset of the Society is its volunteers. Workers are always welcome and needed in our many projects. Casework is where we are in most urgent need now. If anyone wishes to volunteer, we ask that they call our store at 402-0900. No experience is needed - just a desire to help. You will be trained and accompanied by an experienced volunteer. We insist upon client visits being conducted by two caseworkers together. Our store is located at 200 Circle Drive in downtown Sebring. This is a financially self-sufficient and extremely lucrative operation that generates much-needed financial aid for the clients of the Society, thanks to its many kind-hearted volunteers. This store, which is a pleasure to visit, depends on the donations of all kinds of household furnishings, clothing and food to be distributed to the poor, or sold to provide funds for their needs. Thanks to all who remember to donate goods to this purpose. We meets on the first &
third Wednesdays
from
6:00-7:00 PM in Room 12 of the Parish Hall. We welcome new members. At this, the
busiest time of the year, the service we give to the poor depends on the
volunteers we have and we desperately need volunteers at this time. Please
help us by calling 402-0900. SVDP is the Catholic representative on the United Way FEMA Board for Highlands County. And recently, those whom have hands-on contact with the needy have started meeting to pool our resources, and met for the third month in our Music Center. Thanks to our parishioners at St. Catherine. We are blessed to be of service to those in need. |
