Are classes for Kindergarten through Grade 5 called CCD, Religious Education or Faith Formation? CCD was a term used many years ago to refer to classes for children to learn about the Catholic faith. Then along came Religious Education, a new term referring to these classes for children. FAITH FORMATION has some of the same elements of CCD and Religious Education in that it is meant to teach children about our Catholic faith; but it also takes on the added element of forming our children in the faith – by assisting children to develop a spiritual life, to include prayer and Jesus in their every day life away from church and Sunday school. It is important for children to learn the traditions of our faith, but it is equally (if not more) important that children develop a love, trust, and belief in God.
